An acoustic Piano is a longer and costly instrument. It requires periodical maintenance to ensure proper working condition and long life. If proper care is not taken, the instrument will deteriorate and will not give satisfactory performance. Lack of care will damage the instrument requiring major repairs which will be very costly. Here are few tips for taking care of your Piano.
You should not allow dust and dirt to collect on the Piano or inside the instrument. You can clean the body of the Piano with a mild damp cloth. The keys can be cleaned with a damp cloth or a feather duster. You can also use a painting brush or a vacuum cleaner with correct nozzle. As there are intricate parts inside the instruments, you have to entrust the work of cleaning inside the instrument to a Professional mechanic. Once you open the instrument yourself, you may not be able to put it back in correct position and you may also lose the benefits of warranty, if any.
Excessive moisture and hot and cold conditions will affect the working of the Piano. The instrument should be kept away from direct sunlight, and other instruments of heat and cool air. If necessary, you can have a dehumidifier.
The Piano has to be kept in a safe place. You should not keep any heavy items or the instruments as they may fall on the instrument and damage it. You should take care to see that any liquid or food items do not fall on the Piano.
The Piano room should have good ventilation. The source of power supply to the Piano and the adapter used should be of proper capacity as otherwise they will damage the instrument. The power should be kept disconnected by removing the plug when the instrument is not in use.
The Piano should normally be tuned once in six months. If you shift your residence, the Piano will require tuning at the new location as there is a chance of the Piano getting out of tune while in transit.
If you take proper care of you Piano by properly maintaining the parts as per their requirements, it will be a lifetime investment for you and you can enjoy the music in the company of your family members and friends.
